ABOUT

MABU is an award-winning architecture and design office whose work is motivated by a commitment to quality.

However small or large, public or private, new or old we believe that every building can have a positive impact on the people and places that they are designed for.  Each project is a unique opportunity to creatively solve challenging problems by working with our clients and collaborators to find “outside the box” solutions that synthesize design excellence, social context, and environmental stewardship.  This integrative approach seeks to create meaningful buildings and interiors for living, working, and playing that seamlessly integrate with their surroundings and thoughtfully enhance the quality of life of their inhabitants.   We aim to create buildings that are as beautiful as they are useful and as well-crafted as they are adaptable over time.  Our design sensibility focuses on modern, practical expressions of natural materials and simple forms that are understated and timeless.  Architecture can be found in unexpected places and ways.  We are committed to the idea that exceptionally-designed built environments can emerge from ordinary situations, complex constraints, and limited of resources.  Bigger does not necessarily mean better.  Real value is created when a design achieves a maximum effect with minimal means.  One size does not fit all.  We seek to add value to each project in ways that are unique to their particular circumstances through a collaborative process.

Our experience includes residential, educational, commercial, and arts-related project types, ranging in size from 1,000 SF to 50,000 SF.  We have completed projects for public entities, design-oriented developers, and residences for private clients.  A number of them have involved working with historic structures, culturally significant places, and environmentally sensitive landscapes.

Our process is client-focused and takes a hands-on approach.  We aim to create a quality product that is well-tailored to each client’s needs and believe that a project’s vision emerges out of a collaborative relationship and an open, step-by-step process.  The realization of a design requires a similar team-oriented process to intelligently and responsibly move a project from concept to construction.  In this process, we collaborate with builders, craftsmen, engineers, landscape architects, and artists in a variety of project-specific ways.
